Narnia Festival is an established music festival in the historic city of Narni which is located in the Umbria region of Italy. Each summer in July, Narnia Festival offers a spectacular array of classical music, drama, and dance coupled with a cultural festival celebrating the magnificent history and cultural magic that only Narni can offer.

Internationally acclaimed pianist and composer Cristiana Pegoraro is the Artistic Director of Narnia Festival (www.cristianapegoraro.com).

Andrea DelGiudice, renowned international soprano, is the Artistic Development Director of the Vocal Arts Program (www.andreadelgiudice.com).

The International Vocal Arts Program is an organization whose aim is to offer eager musicians and singers from all nations the opportunity to pursue the art form of opera and classical singing through intensive training, and to perform in exciting full-productions presented as part of the larger Narnia Festival.

HOTELS: Lodging is at the Hotel La Loggia, a 3-star hotel, and the Palazzo Barilatti. Palazzo Barilatti doesn’t have a star rating but is an historic palazzo, completely restored, and as beautiful as any hotel. Participants staying at Palazzo Barilatti will have breakfast at Hotel La Loggia (2 minutes walking distance). All rooms have bathroom and include breakfast and dinner. Single occupancy rooms are available for an additional cost.

Narnia Arts Academy doesn’t provide insurance. Each student should provide for his/her own insurance.

The Emerging Artists Program will offer the opportunity to study thoroughly with internationally renowned Italian and American teachers, coaches and maestros, sing in masterclasses, perform small roles (through auditions ONLY for advanced singers) in the full production of SUOR ANGELICA / GIANNI SCHICCHI by Puccini, perform in the chorus of MISSA BREVIS IN C MAJOR “Spatzenmesse” KV 220 by Mozart, and perform several concerts. This program will provide opportunities for guidance and leads to appropriate music programs at the top US universities and conservatories.

The Choral Fantasy / Culture & Leisure Program is proud to announce guest conductor Maestro Jason Tramm. This program is an opportunity for choral enthusiasts to experience the many treasures of Italy while participating in the chorus of the MASS IN C MAJOR / CHORAL FANTASY by Beethoven under the baton of Maestro Jason Tramm, the MISSA BREVIS IN C MAJOR “Spatzenmesse”, KV 220 by Mozart under the baton of Maestro Lorenzo Porzio.  This program includes many cultural excursions and classes in cuisine, art, Italian history and music.

Lorenzo Porzio Italy

At the age of seven he began studying the piano and at eleven he began studying the organ under the organist and composer Lorenzo Ronci. He concluded his studies at Santa Cecilia with Maestro Federico del Sorto. Since 1996 he has been the principal organist at the Basilica del Sacro Cuore Immacolato di Maria ai Parioli (Rome).

From 1997 – 2011 he continued to perfect his piano studies under Biagio Andriulli, Andrea Sammartino, Giovanni Scaramuzza and Gino Nappo at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome. He has performed as soloist and has accompanied polyphonic choirs in some of the most prestigious cathedrals and venues in Italy. He has worked with many important singers from the Santa Cecilia Academy and Teatro dell’Opera, the Coro Accademico Romano and the Coro Polifonico S. Martino, among others. In 2003 he held concerts in the Vatican (Sala Raffaello), in the Chiesa del Governatorato and in the Vatican Gardens for the re-opening of the Casina di Pio IV.

He studied composition with Marco Persichetti, graduating with the highest grades from the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia in Rome under Francesco Telli.

He began his career as Orchestra Conductor studying with Francesco Carotenuto and Marco Boemi, and participating in Piero Bellugi’s Masterclasses. Since 2004 he has written and performed music on the piano and organ for shows, documentaries and short TV movies on RAI 1, RAI 3, RAI International, Sky Sport, Roma Uno, and others. In November 2005, Radio Uno Rai broadcasted his “Rapsodia Orientale (Pensando a Pechino)” composed and played by him. In May 2006 he debuted as composer at the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome (Sala Petrassi) during an event hosted by Pippo Baudo “Com’è Straordinaria la Vita”, and held a chamber music concert in the Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano for the 400th anniversary of the opening of the Vatican Museums. During the Christmas festivities in 2006, he played the organ during the Mass in St. Peter’s Cathedral. In September 2009 and in December 2011, he was again organist at St. Peter’s for the celebration of Masses by Cardinal Comastri.

From 2009 to 2010 he was First Assistant Conductor of the elite orchestra of the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia in Rome. In 2010 he debuted as Conductor of the Orchestra Tiberina, conducting the orchestra again in 2011 for a concert at the Cathedral of the Santissimi Apostoli (Rome). Since 2010 he has been collaborating with the Accademia Santa Cecilia as pianist and conductor. Since 2011 he has been Principal Conductor of the Philharmonic Orchestra “L’Armonica Temperanza”, with which he tours on a regular basis. With “L’Armonica Temperanza” he was invited to perform in the most prestigious halls and churches of Rome (Sala della Protomoteca del Campidoglio, Sala del Coro della Cappella Sistina, Biblioteca del Senato, Biblioteca Nazionale, Basilica di Santa Francesca Romana, San Quirico e Giulitta ai Fori Imperiali, San Bartolomeo all’Isola Tiberina, S.Lucia al Gonfalone, Chiesa degli Spagnoli ai Banchi Vecchi, San Clemente, Sant’Eugenio alle Belle Arti, San Paolo entro le mura). In 2012 he founded the Orchestra and Choir of Convitto Nazionale Vittorio Emanuele II in Rome.

In 2013, within the Narnia Festival, he conducts at the prestigious Orvieto Cathedral and San Domenico Auditorium in Narni, Italy. Both concerts were recorded by RAI 1 and presented by famous actress Barbara De Rossi.

In January 2014 he debuts with Orchestra Filarmonica di Roma at the Auditorium Seraphicum in Rome and Teatro Magnani in Fidenza (Parma) with two sold out concerts.

On the basis of his merits, the President of the Republic of Italy, C.A.Ciampi, awarded him the title of “Cavaliere della Repubblica”.

Jason Tramm USA

Jason C. Tramm’s work in the operatic, symphonic and choral repertoire
has received critical acclaim throughout the Unites States and abroad.
Maestro Tramm serves as Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the
MidAtlantic Opera with whom he made his Carnegie Hall (Stern Auditorium) and
Lincoln Center (Alice Tully Hall) debuts in the past two seasons with his
critically acclaimed “Prayer for Peace”concerts.

Currently in his 10th season as Director of Music, in Residence, of
the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association, Tramm leads the choral,
orchestral, and oratorio performances in the 6,500-seat historic Great
Auditorium in the summer months. In addition to the historic Ocean Grove
Choir Festival, the largest sacred music festival on the East Coast, Tramm
conducts orchestral and sacred masterworks. He has appeared on two National
Public Radio broadcasts with organ virtuoso Gordon Turk and a large
orchestra. Mr. Tramm is also Music Director/Principal Conductor of the
Teatro Lirico D’Europa, a touring professional opera company, with whom he
will conduct over 25 performances this season in 6 states in performances of
Turandot, Madama Butterfly, Tosca, Carmen and La Traviata. Tramm led the NJ
State Opera as principal conductor and Artistic Director from 2008 to 2012,
where he collaborated with some of the finest voices in opera, including
Samuel Ramey, Vladimir Galouzine, Angela Brown, Gregg Baker, and Paul
Plishka. His 2009 HDTV broadcast with PBS affiliate NJN of “Verdi Requiem:
Live from Ocean Grove,” garnered a regional Emmy Award nomination.

An accomplished educator, Tramm serves on the faculty at Seton Hall
University as Assistant Professor and Director of Choral Activities, College
of Communication and the Arts where he leads the University Choir, Chamber
Choir, Orchestra, and teaches voice and conducting. He is also actively
sought as a clinician and regularly presents lectures. He holds degrees in
music from the Crane School, the Hartt School, and a DMA in Conducting from
Rutgers University, where he was the recipient of their prestigious
Presidential Fellowship. In 2003, he joined the ranks of Metropolitan Opera
Stars Renee Fleming and Stephanie Blythe in being honored with the Rising
Star Award from the SUNY Potsdam Alumni Association. A frequent guest
conductor, he has led operatic and symphonic performances in Italy, Romania,
Albania, and Hungary, where he recorded an album of rarely heard French
operatic arias with the Szeged Symphony.

Andrea DelGiudice, has enjoyed a full career in Europe and the United States as a leading international soprano. Venues include the Scottish National Opera, Munich State Opera, Liege Opera, Opera Bonn, Edmonton Opera, Austin Lyric Opera, DiCapo Opera Theater and Arizona Opera. Her verismo roles include the Puccini and Verdi heroines alongside renowned artists such as Placido Domingo, Johan Botha, Sherill Milnes, Alexei Steblianko, and Nicola Martinucci.
Andrea has been featured as a concert soloist at Boston’s Jordan Hall with some of Boston’s foremost instrumental soloists, Brockton Symphony Orchestra and WGBH’s “Morning Classics” in Richard Strauss’ Four Last Songs and original works including Shema by composer Simon Sargon.

Andrea’s diverse talents led to numerous international recording contracts in over 200 major films and animated features in Rome, Italy with Walt Disney/ Buena Vista, RAI television and Sundance Films.

Ms. DelGiudice currently serves as Resident Artist Artistic Development Director at Dicapo Opera Theater in New York City; Artistic Advisor and Voice Faculty at the Narnia Arts Academy in Narni, Italy, and Voice Faculty at the Neighborhood Playhouse of the Theater in New York City.

Private Studios are located in New York City and Boston.

Andrea was Artistic Advisor and Voice Faculty at the Tuscia Opera Festival in Viterbo, Italy from 2009 – 2013.

As Founder and Artistic Director, of Operatunity Outreach in Boston, Andrea developed a community conservatory Opera training program for musically merited children in need. Operatunity served nearly 20 different cities producing operas in after school programming integrating children and professional opera singers.

Ms. DelGiudice is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and an accomplished pianist. She is fluent in Italian. College Faculty and Resident Artist appointments include Dean College, Salem State College, Stonehill College and Massasoit Community College in Massachusetts.

Praised for her “strongly centered, richly textured soprano” by New York Magazine and her “poignant soprano” for her moving portrayals by the New York Times, the Marian Anderson Award-winning soprano, Indira Mahajan is in demand by leading opera companies and orchestras worldwide.

One of the most celebrated interpreters of the role of Bess, audiences on five continents have enjoyed her more than 120 appearances in Porgy and Bess. In the United States, she has performed the role from coast to coast: from Washington National Opera, Dallas Opera to Los Angeles Opera. The Internationally acclaimed soprano has also appeared in Gershwin’s masterpiece in the major capital cities of Amsterdam, Munich, Paris, Rome, São Paulo and Tokyo, among others.

This season Indira Mahajan performed the role of Bess at the Landestheater Linz in Austria and at the Festival de Wiltz in Luxembourg. She also performed the role at the Grand Théâtre de Geneva, The Chassè Theater in Breda, Netherlands and Palais des Festivals Cannes, France and joined the roster of the Lyric Opera of Chicago. She returned to Russia for a series of concert performances in Moscow, Yekaterinburg and Perm. and appeared as a guest artist with the Klangvokal MusikFestival in Dortmund, Germany in a concert entitled, “American Nights” and in a Benefit Concert in Watertown, New York, entitled, ”A Night of Broadway and Opera” performing the works of Verdi, Puccini, and American Broadway composers.

Operatic Highlights include, the title roles in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly and Sour Angelica, the roles of Musetta and Mimi in La Bohème, the title role of Aida, Violetta in La Traviata, Gild in Rigoletto, Nedda in Pagliacci the title role of Lucia di Lammermoor, Susanna in the Marriage of Figaro and Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni. Indira Mahajan made her United Kingdom debut singing the role of Mimi in Francesca Zambello’s production of La Bohème at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

Indira Mahajan was awarded both the New York City Opera Debut Artist of the year and Dallas Opera’s Maria Callas Debut Award.

Indira Mahajan’s orchestral repertoire extends from works in the Baroque and Classical genres to the foremost composers of today. She recently performed Steven Stucky and Gene Scheer’s riveting oratorio August 4, 1964 with the Dallas Symphony, at Meyerson Symphony Hall in Dallas and at Carnegie Hall. The recording is distributed by Naxos.

Miss Mahajan performed Beethoven’s Symphony no. 9 with both Gustavo Dudamel’s Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra in Caracas and with the Korean Broadcast Symphony Orchestra at the United Nations, as well as Beethoven’s Mass in C with the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Costa Rica. Miss Mahajan has performed with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi, the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and the Moscow Chamber Choir.

New York audiences have enjoyed her performances with the New York Philharmonic, as soloist at Carnegie Hall and has also performed a benefit recital for Classical Action: Performing Arts Against Aids. Mr. León is an uniquely diverse artist, equally adept as an operatic tenor, a conductor and a pianist. Until recently he specialized in Italian repertoire singing the leading roles in such operas as Norma, La Traviata, Don Giovanni, and Madama Butterfly. Mr. León’s recent engagements have included singing Tamino in Die Zauberflöte. and his first Wagnerian tenor role in Los Angeles Lyric Opera’s production of Die Feen.
Maestro León conducts opera and concert music and his credits include Pagliacci and Suor Angelica for StageWorks Festival in Washington, D.C., Le Nozze di Figaro, La Traviata, Suor Angelica, La Boheme in Italy for Tuscia Operafestival, as well Stabat Mater of Pergolesi, andEsultate Jubilate of Mozart. He sustained a critical relationship as a singer, coach and conductor for both the Tuscia Operafestival and the International Lyric Academy of Rome and Viterbo for the past 14 years. During the summer of 2015 she was protagonist of MeDea-variations on the myth, by and with Maurizio Donadoni. March 2015 staged again Diatribe of love against a seated man, the only play by the great Colombian Nobel author Gabriel García Márquez, with a new staging directed by Emanuela Giordano. As the best event of the Roman Carnival 2015 she signed the script with the director Francesco Sala and she performed in Christina of Sweden, Queen in Rome, starring with Alessandro Benvenuti. Care planning and theatrical text for a Tribute to Gabriel García Márquez: imaginary interview performed with Massimo Dapporto and the full reading in Marathon with 150 collegues of “One Hundred Years of Solitude”. She is the creator of The Theatre for Unicef, for which she involved almost 100 colleagues and ten famous authors, as Maraini, La Capria, Camilleri, Merini, Bevilacqua, Comencini, Tani, Erba, Cavosi, Franceschi and all of them wrote specifically performances for children. On autumn 2005 she opened the season 2005/06 of the Teatro Vittoria in Rome with Blithe Spirit by Noel Coward directed by Attilio Corsini. During the year 2003 she was on stage with La Venexiana directed by Beppe Arena, which also directed her in Phaedra by Seneca. In her long carreer we note from her debut: she was The Oriental slave by Carlo Goldoni – the protagonist of the play A Saint riding broom written and directed by Luigi Magni, opening the new Teatro Della Cometa in Rome – The Claudio’s wife by Alexandre Dumas. She performed with Mario Scaccia in The sign by Jacopone – she interpreted Grazia Deledda e Maria Carta in Grazia and Maria directed by Maria Assunta Calvise – played the monologue from Filumena Marturano by De Filippo directed by Enrico Maria Lamanna – in Shakespeare horror show she starred on stage Henry V, Othello, Romeo and Juliet directed by Claudio Boccaccini. For this opera she was awarded with Premio Randone 2000. In the 2000/01 season she starred with Pietro Longhi Under a school desk, comedy by Domenico Starnone and directed by Silvio Giordani. During the Spoleto Festival 2001 she starred Gin and tonic, a play written and directed by Silvano Spada, the only show of prose replicated throughout the duration of the festival in the Caio Melisso theater. In 2002 she interpreted verses of peace by Cesare Pavese for Butterfly and Parriots at the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome with Franco Nero and Carla Fracci. In summer 2002 she made her debut at the Villa Adriana in Tivoli with Women, the knights, arms… I sing, a Renaissance evening tour directed by Paul Todisco.

On May 24, 2015 for the centenary of the First World War she directed The battlefront of women by and with Lucilla Galeazzi and LeVocidOro choir and she starred in the prologue Talk a woman of Matilde Serao too. She was director, text author and interpreter of history between D’Annunzio and Eleonora Duse in D’Annunzio’s feelings. Back to interpret The song of Dido, directing the preparation and translating by the Book IV of Virgil’s Aeneid, VII by the Epistle of Ovid and lyrics by Ungaretti, a melologue on several classical music themes for Dido Abandoned for soprano, choir and piano. In 2007 she directed and starred in Histoire du soldat by Igor Stravinsky-Ramuz. She is author and producer of the entire chiamalavita project, Recital in concert broadcast by RAI On Stage, presented in Benevento City Entertainment Theater Festival and arrived in the DHL Auditorium of the U.N. headquarters in November 2005. She was the design and the creator of the recital of Futurist poems Zang tumb tumb FuturismOggi, Entertainment magnetic theater concert with Livio Matrone on 64 percussions and with Enrico Maria Lamanna as supervisor director. The show was also graphically developed for video wall installation in London. On the occasion of the Jubilee 2000 she was starring with Mariano Rigillo on lyrics by Vincenzo De Vivo and Baget Bozzo, the opera Passio et resurrectio composed by Master Sergio Rendine for large orchestra, the Solisti Aquilani chorus and Enzo Gragnaniello soloist, replicated in Easter 2007. the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma has entrusted her in 2001 for I heard the voice, I heard the cry, melodrama from the Medea of Euripides in three movements composed by Maestro Alessandro Cusatelli, for voice, cello, percussion and orchestra synthesized computer. In December 2003 in Taormina-Arte she was on stage with The Rock, opera by Vincenzo Spampinato, with Oriella Dorella étoile. The Impresario by W. A. Mozart, opera conducted by Maestro Giuranna and staged by Tonino Del Colle, represents her first step of a successful collaboration with musicians. She was seventeen years old only when she debuted with The riser and following successful programs such as Hi guys and You and me. Ray Chenez was born in the town of Lockport, NY (USA), and completed his vocal studies at the State University of New York at Fredonia and Florida State University. Michael Capasso has produced, directed and toured opera and musical theater productions in the U.S. and abroad for over 30 years. Having studied voice at the Mannes College of Music, he began his career producing and directing while still in his late teens and early twenties. In 1981, he, along with Diane Martindale, founded New York’s Dicapo Opera Theatre. In 1995, Capasso conceived and designed a permanent home and performance space for the company, repurposing the lower level of the St. Jean Baptiste Catholic Church on Manhattan’s East Side, and transforming the large, unused space into a 204-seat “jewel-box” theater. Drawing on his background in construction, he was involved in every facet of the project, even personally manning heavy equipment to dig the orchestra pit. Over the 30 years of his leadership, Dicapo Opera Theater presented a diverse programming to the New York public, and, in co-operation with the Armel Festival, premiered three productions of contemporary American operas in Europe.

In addition to his work with the Dicapo Opera Theatre, Mr. Capasso has directed operas at l’Opéra de Montréal; Mallorca Opera, Spain; Toledo Opera; Connecticut Opera; New Jersey State Opera; Opera Carolina; and Orlando Opera among others. Mr. Capasso founded the National Lyric Opera in 1991, a touring company that has brought fully staged operas to communities in the American Northeast that would otherwise not have the opportunity to experience live opera.

In celebration of the 75th anniversary of George Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, Capasso mounted a production which began touring in the United States in February 2010. The production continues to tour and was most recently hosted in Mexico City’s famed Palacio de Bellas Artes.

As an author, his writing credits include: a staged adaptation of Dickens’s A Christmas Carol; Opera Senza Rancor, a satire on the world of opera; Puccini’s Passion, a biographical play with music on the life and career of Puccini; a new book and libretti for La Périchole; English librettos for Die Fledermaus and The Daughter of the Regiment; and a concert/lecture series for the New York Historical Society. Capasso’s film on the life and career of Enrico Caruso, which he wrote and produced, aired on the A&E Network’s Biography series in 1998. Other film credits include his direction of scenes from Nabucco for the feature film The Secret Lives of Dentists.

Capasso is a regular participant on the popular intermission quiz of the Metropolitan Opera live broadcasts on WQXR. He has received New York City’s Ellis Island Medal of Honor, The Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation’s Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Leonardo Da Vinci Award for Cultural Achievement from the Italian Heritage and Culture Committee of New York. In 2004, he was named “Man of the Year” by the Italian Welfare League and in 2009 received a Special Lifetime Achievement Award in the Arts from the Order Sons of Italy in America.

Si è diplomato in Regia lirico-teatrale presso il Conservatorio di Musica «Santa Cecilia» di Roma e laureato in Discipline dell’Arte, della Musica e dello Spettacolo presso l’Università degli Studi di Bologna.
Ha fatto parte della direzione artistica di importanti manifestazioni internazionali di musica, danza, teatro, tra i quali la Sagra Musicale Umbra, le Panatenee Pompeiane (Pompei, Agrigento, Capri), il Verdi Festival di Parma, il Reate Festival di Rieti, del quale dal 2012 è stato nominato Direttore artistico.
Presso la Fondazione Rossini è membro del Comitato scientifico e direttore delle collane «Iconografia rossiniana», «I libretti di Rossini» e «Saggi e Fonti».
Presso l’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia è coordinatore delle attività artistiche di Santa Cecilia Opera Studio, progetto di alto perfezionamento in canto lirico dedicato alla formazione professionale di giovani cantanti diretto da Renata Scotto.
Si è dedicato alla valorizzazione e alla riscoperta del melologo attraverso concerti, conferenze, seminari, trasmissioni radiofoniche e spettacoli con attrici quali Anna Proclemer, Sonia Bergamasco, Milena Vukotić.
Ha collaborato, in qualità di responsabile della dizione italiana, a prestigiose produzioni internazionali: Bayerische Staatsoper: Mozart, Don Giovanni, direttore Kent Nagano; Mozart, Mitridate, re di Ponto, direttore Ivor Bolton; Mozart, La clemenza di Tito, direttore Kirill Petrenko; Monteverdi, L’Orfeo, direttore Ivor Bolton; Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia: Rossini, Tancredi, direttore René Jacobs; Rossini, Il viaggio a Reims, direttore Kent Nagano.
Ha tenuto masterclass presso Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst – Graz (2004; 2010); Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (2011); Latvian Academy of Music Jāzeps Vītols (2011); Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (2011); Varna International Music Festival (2012).
Ha insegnato Storia dell’Opera e Messinscena dello spettacolo musicale presso l’Università degli Studi dell’Aquila dal 1998 al 2010.
È docente di Teoria e tecnica dell’interpretazione scenica presso il Conservatorio di Musica dell’Aquila.

Fabrizio Pompei graduated in Humanities at University of L’Aquila and later obtained a 2nd level University Master degree in Opera Stage Director at Opera Academy of Verona (where he had an opera stage director internship with directors P. Pizzi, R. Brunel, W. Kentridge, F. Zeffirelli).
He worked as stage director and stage director assistant with renown Italian e foreign productions (Commissione Internazionale per lo sviluppo dei popoli-CISP, European Union programme “Youth in action”, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Società dei Concerti “B. Barattelli”, Istituzione Sinfonica Abruzzese, Teatro Stabile di Innovazione-L’Uovo, Kripton Theatre, Potlach Theatre, Reate Festival, Istituto Abruzzese per la Storia della Resistenza e dell’Italia Contemporanea, Conservatorio “A. Diego Procoli has graduated with honours in Piano at the Conservatorio “A. Casella” of L’Aquila (Italy), where he has obtained also his Master Degree in Piano “summa cum laude” under the guidance of Elena Matteucci. He has studied with Nina Tichman (Piano), Anthony Spiri and Roglit Ishay (Piano Chamber Music) at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Köln (Germany) and has attended masterclasses and piano courses with Orazio Maione, Carlo Grante, Fausto di Cesare, Mariangela Vacatello, Pier Narciso Masi and Konstantin Bogino. He has studied also Harpsichord with Andrea Coen and Fortepiano with Costantino Mastroprimiano, as well as Music Theory and Composition with Matteo d’Amico and Claudio Perugini at the Conservatorio of L’Aquila.

As soloist or as pianist in chamber groups he has performed for several Concert Seasons and Festivals in Italy and abroad, such as the Concert Season of Società dei Concerti “Bonaventura Barattelli” (L’Aquila), the Festival di Mezza Estate (Tagliacozzo), the Estate Musicale Frentana (Chieti), the Teatro Principal di Castellon de la Plana (Spain), il Riojaforum of Logroño (Spain), the Rome Chamber Music Festival, the Concert Season of “I Solisti Aquilani” Orchestra, the Polish Institut of Culture and the Embassy of Poland in Rome and Malta, the Auditorium della Conciliazione and the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia of Rome and the RAI – Radiotelevisione italiana.

Boram Ahn Korea

Born and raised in South Korea, Boram Ahn studied composition and piano performance at McGill University in Canada. She studied with pianist Richard Raymond and Kyoko Hashimoto, and composer Brian Cherney, John Rea, and Jean Lessage. She pursued Artist Diploma in Collaborative Piano under the direction of Michael McMahon, focusing on art song and operatic repertoire. From 2011 to 2014 she worked as a freelance pianist/coach in Montreal and McGill University, where she played for voice studios, recitals, choir, contemporary ensemble, and opera rehearsals. She served as répétiteur and coach for Opera McGill’s production La Bohème, Dido and Aeneas, The Rake’s Progress, Turn of the Screw, and the Canadian Premiere of John Musto’s opera, Volpone.

She participated in various opera programs and festivals throuout North America and Europe, where she had opportunity to work with conductor Julian Wachner, Andrew Bisantz, Olaf Storbeck, Simone Luti, Paolo Paroni, and director David Gately, Patrick Hansen, Dean Anthony, Tom Diamond, and Damon Nestor Ploumis. She has collaborated in opera productions at Opera Nuova (Suor Angelica), International Lyric Academy of Viterbo (Rigoletto), New York Opera Studio (opera scenes), Brevard Music Center in North Carolina (La Traviata, Alcina, L’Elisir d’amore), Center for Opera Studies in Italy (Le Nozze di
Figaro), Accademia Europa Dell’Opera (Così fan tutte, Gianni Schicchi), Crescendo Nyári Akadémián in Hungary (Don Giovanni), Lyric Opera Studio Weimar (Die Lustigen Weiber von Windsor).

She is currently based in Berlin, freelancing as instrumental/vocal accompanist and coach. Future engagements include 2016 Thüringer Schlossfestspiel Sonderhausen, where she will be assisting ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ as pianist and Musical assistant.

Sonya Delwaide Canada

Sonya Delwaide is a choreographer and performer whose reputation has flourished within the United States and Canada for three decades. Her work has been favorably noticed by critics: she has been profiled in San Francisco Magazine, received a Bay Area Goldie Award (from the San Francisco Bay Guardian), was named in the 2001 Top 10 list from the San Francisco Chronicle and was in the Dance Magazine’s Top 25 people to watch in 2002. Although her choreographic development began within the New York post-modern dance scene, her regular involvement with ballet companies and her French-Canadian roots strongly influence her voice. The San Francisco Express wrote: “she seems to epitomize a postmodern fusion of the Balanchine/Cunningham aesthetic with the punk expressiveness of the ’80s-geometric clarity and a ruminating, personal, sexually prickly style”. Ms. Delwaide’s work is characterized by intense theatricality, a highly charged and imaginative movement vocabulary, and an ironic yet gentle fascination with the human condition.

Ms. Delwaide was born in Québec, where she obtained her college diploma in Health Sciences and a 10th degree in Piano Performance from Laval University. Fascinated with dance, she earned an Honors Bachelor of Fine Arts from York University (Toronto). With the help of the Canada Arts Council, she pursued her dance training in New York with such masters as Merce Cunningham, Jocelyn Lorenz, Larry Rhodes, Twyla Tharp, Mel Wong and Douglas Dunn. In 1981 she joined New York’s Mel Wong Dance Company as a principal member, and in 1986 she became a member of Desrosiers Dance Theatre in Toronto.

Since 1981 her work has been produced in New York, San Francisco, Oakland. Philadelphia, Lille (France), Toronto, Vancouver, Ottawa, Halifax, Montréal and throughout Québec. She has choreographed more than 80 pieces on companies such as Ottawa Ballet, Oakland Ballet, Diablo Ballet, Ballet Austin, L’Ecole Supérieure des Grands Ballets Canadiens and for the Fringe Festival in Philadelphia using the dancers of the Pennsylvania Ballet. She won the National Choreographic Competition sponsored by Hubbard Street 2 ( in 2000) and the 2006 New American Choreographic Talent, organized by Ballet Austin.

Ms. Delwaide has also received commissions to create dances for theater, gala, fundraising events, and American television. In 1988 she was a recipient of a “Exploration Grant” from the Canada Council to create a “dance drama” that was presented and produced by the Poor Alex Theater in Toronto. Ms. Delwaide’s acting also expanded to television: she performed and choreographed in “War of the Worlds”, “Friday the 13th, The Series”, the music video “The Dream is Alive” and at the “Toronto Arts Awards” for a CBC special.

In 1992 she co-founded the Compagnie de Danse L’Astragale based in Québec. For the following 7 years, she was Artistic Director and Resident Choreographer of L’Astragale and created 12 original works for this company. In 1996 she moved to California (Berkeley) where her work was immediately presented at San Francisco’s ODC Theater during SummerFest ’96 and in Oakland at Laney College, as part of the Bay Area Dance Series. Since then she has been co-produced by ODC Theater in their 2001, 1999 and 1998 programming, and was invited to perform “Départ”(for which she received an Isadora Duncan Award) at the10th anniversary season of San Francisco SummerFest 2001.

Miss Delwaide has also received many commissions from independent artists and various dance companies, such as: AXIS Dance Company, Berkeley Ballet Theater, School of Performing Arts in Jacksonville, California State University in Hayward, Contra Costa Ballet. Through these companies her work has been seen throughout California, in Massachusetts, Florida, Washington State and at the Kennedy Center in Washington. This summer Berkeley Ballet Theater will be showing 3 of her works at the Tanzommer Festival in Austria.

Ms. Delwaide received multiple awards from organizations such as the Irvine Foundation (Dancemakers’ Grant), Meet the Composer Grant (with AXIS Dance Company), The Canada Arts Council, Isadora Duncan Award (San Francisco),Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec, Ministère des Affaires Culturelles du Québec, Ontario Arts Council, Fonds F.C.A.C. du Québec, Zellerbach Family Fund, the W. A. Gerbode Foundation (California) and a Sarlo Award for Teaching Excellence (Mills College). She was nominated for England’s Bonnie Bird Choreographic Fund in 1993 and for Canada’s Clifford E. Lee Award in 1992. Ms. Delwaide is a member of both ACTRA and l’Union des Artistes (Canada) and was once invited by the Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec to be one of the jury on their panel.

In the spring and summer of 2001, Ms Delwaide was acting as interim artistic director of Berkeley Ballet Theater. She is currently Professor of Dance at Mills College in Oakland, CA, where she served as Chair for 5 years. She has previously taught for Alvin Ailey Dance Company, ODC Theater, Shawl/Anderson Dance Center, Contra Costa Ballet, California State University in Hayward, National Ballet of Canada, L’Ecole Supérieure des Grands Ballets Canadiens, Cégep of Drummondville and many independent studios throughout Canada.

Terms & Conditions

  • The International Vocal Arts Program is open to participants of all nationalities with no age limit. For underage students, parents will need to sign the parent’s authorization exempting the organization from any liability with respect to the child.
  • All participants enrolled in the International Vocal Arts Program will perform concerts for the Narnia Festival provided they are dressed appropriately. Appropriate dress are suits and ties for men for aria concerts (or tuxedo with orchestra), gowns for women both for concerts and orchestra. Please bring also all black (elegant/appropriate length/shoulders coverage) to wear for any chorus concerts.
  • The management reserves the right to cancel one or more programs. In this case the participants will be warned immediately and will be refunded the tuition fee.
  • If a course is cancelled due to a teacher’s serious problem, participants will be refunded the registration and participation fee, less bank transfer expenses.
  • Those having enrolled who are unable to attend the program will be entitled to a refund of 50% of the tuition fee as long as they give notice at least 30 days before beginning of the course (except participants in the FULL OPERA PRODUCTION PROGRAM. For them the fees will be NON REFUNDABLE). The management, however, will retain 15% for processing fees.
  • Tuition fees include the Italian bank trasfers fees
  • Management does not assume any risk or damage arising from the activities of the participants in the program.
  • The organization is not responsible for any damage to persons and property which may occur during the period of the program.
  • Application to the International Vocal Arts Program requires the unconditional acceptance of this regulation and the release to Narnia Arts Academy/Narnia Festival for use of photos and filming of lectures, concerts and any other event related to the activity of the program, without any rights resulting from this use by the program participants.

Reach Narni

Narni – Geographic centre of Italy, situated in the province of Terni, in the region of Umbria.

It’s a typical Umbrian town, built on a hill 790 feet above sea level with 20.570 inhabitants and strong medieval traces. The town has outstanding views over the river Nera valley and the wide plane of Terni. Narni offers artistic, archaeological and religious itineraries, plus an abundance of natural history for the tourist. The town’s theater dates back to 1800.

It is surrounded by cultural gems, including the renowned cities of Perugia, Assisi, Todi, Spoleto.

Narni is situated 62 miles from Rome and 46 miles from Perugia.

How to reach Narni by plane:

The nearest airport is Rome Fiumicino (FCO).

Exclusively for the International Vocal Arts Program participants, Narnia Arts Academy provides free private transportation by bus from the Rome Fiumicino Airport to Narni and from Narni to the Rome Fiumicino Airport.

Those who would like to take advantage of our private transportation options should arrive and leave accordingly to the dates and schedule in which the service is offered.

Historical information:

Although Neolithic people lived in this region, the first historical document mentioning the town is dated 600 B.C.
Narni was a Roman colony under the name of Narnia, a name that comes from the Nar River, which today is called the Nera.
In 233 B.C., with the construction of the via Flaminia from Rome to Rimini on the Adriatic coast, Narni became of major importance and it was heavily fortified because the road passed through the town.

In 90 B.C., Narnia became a municipally (semi independent) town within the Roman Empire.
The first Christian Bishop of Narni, Giovenale from Cartage, was chosen in 368 A.D. and later was consecrated as Patron Saint of the town.
Narni’s strategic position, standing as it does above the deep gorge of the river Nera, has made it a target of many invading and barbarian forces.
In the 11th Century it established its power as a free “Comune” (autonomous town).
Between the 12th and the 14th century it reached its greatest splendor.
In 1371, the Pope Reformed the Statutes of the city and Narni became part of the Papal State.
Narni developed a school of painting and goldsmithing. Many artists of the renaissance period produced work for clients and patrons in Narni: Rosellino, Ghirlandaio, Gozzoli, Vecchietta, Antoniazzo, Romano and Spagna.
On the 17th of July 1527 the Lanzichenecchi (northern mercenaries) stopped on their way back from the sacking of Rome and destroyed Narni.
Slowly the walls, buildings and churches were rebuilt and by the end of the century, Narni had been re-established.
After the rebuilding, many important artists returned to Narni, including Vignola and Zuccari. Also Sangallo and Scalza, who took part in the reconstruction of the town.
In 1664 the town library was founded. Many famous people were born in Narni, including: the emperor M.C. Nerva, Gattamelata, the Beata Lucia, Bernardo Eroli, Galeotto Marzio and S. Cassio.
